About the Center
CBRD was created in 2006 through the Governor's 2010 Initiative for Economic Development.
Participating Departments (SDSMT & SDSU)
Over 122 faculty, scientists, staff and students from 8 departments at SDSM&T and SDSU
- Identify, develop and market novel biobased tech-nologies for production of bioenergy, biochemicals and biomaterials
- Establish a network of university researchers, federal scientists and industrial partners to stimulate collaboration and consolidate bioprocessing research at CBRD
- Promote technology transfer to industry to enhance rural economic development, energy security and environmental sustainability
- Create research and education opportunities to train the next generation scientists and engineers for the transition to a sustainable biobased economy
